In the heart of Milan's Brera district, at 33 Via Moscova, a historic building has undergone a transformation that combines past and future in a unique harmony of design and functionality. As an industrial designer for Planium s.r.l., my role was to create a symbiosis between Asti Architetti's architectural idea and the technical and structural needs of a building undergoing a major renovation.
In keeping with the architectural design, I faced the challenge of transforming the vast entrance area into a modern reception space, while keeping alive the dialogue with the building's historicity. My task was not limited to a simple design application, but involved careful management of structural, logistical and production details.
I devised a tailor-made docking system for Calamine steel panels, materials chosen by architects for their aesthetic appeal and versatility. This system required precise coordination of the production, transportation and assembly phases, as well as careful project management to ensure adherence to schedules and regulations.
Special effort was put into details such as concealed doors and concealed hatches designed to hide electrical panels and fire protection systems. Each element was designed with the dual purpose of being both aesthetically appealing and functional for maintenance and safety.
At each stage of the project, I worked to optimize the interaction between technical and aesthetic aspects, addressing challenges related to the weight of the metal, the implementation of joints and interlocks, and the integration of the elevator areas. The result is an entrance area that reflects the marriage of innovation and tradition, where the beauty of design blends with the efficiency of industrial design.
Working on Moscova 33 was an intense and rewarding experience that highlighted my ability to manage complex projects and find ingenious solutions to design and production challenges. It is an example of how industrial design can go beyond pure aesthetics, creating spaces that are both beautiful to look at and functional to live in.
